A SIMPLE TECHNIQUE TO BECOME A BETTER SPEAKER

Speaking is something we all do daily.

And yet, some people are much better at "speaking" than others. Why is that?

Because communication is a skill that requires intentional practice.

Like a muscle, that has to be trained at the gym.

But the good news is: you are capable of improving your speech!

And spoiler: it doesn't have to be complicated.

Here is one simple technique to become a better speaker:

When was the last time you did an audit of your words?

That's right, of the way you speak.

We all strive to make an impact. And many of us do, quite well.

But there's always room for improvement.

And an audit is a great way to reset & refresh your style.

What do I mean by an audit?

The intentional review of your speech.

Here's what you can look out for:

→ Do you have a good vocabulary base?

↳ Are you repeating the same words over and over, or do you have enough adjectives in your arsenal to switch things up.

→ Do you use filler words?

↳ These go beyond "um" and "ah" and can include phrases like "see", "right", and a common one: "like"

→ Does your style match your goal?

↳ Are you using a lot of slang or overly complicated words (most people don't know the meaning of) or are you being too casual if you want to sound professional?

Now, here's how to get started:

1. Open the notes app on your phone. Use the speech-to-text function.

This part is important: without looking at the text pop-up, talk freely for a minimum of 30 seconds.

↳ Then review the text!

2. Record yourself (either audio-only or video works well).

Talk freely for a minute.

↳ Listen to review it (watching can get distracting!).

Be proactive about your progress.

You speak every day. You might as well do it well.
